My Top 5 Halloween Movies

With only four days until October’s greatest spooky holiday it is time to browse our movie lists for some Halloween-vibed films to watch while curled up with a cozy blanket and drinking a hot beverege. So, with that in mind, I’m sharing with you my own list of Halloween themed movies.

1. The Mummy (1999)

Being one of my favourite films of all times, The Mummy focuses on the awakening of a cursed mummy during an archaeological dig in an ancient Egyptian city during 1925. Mummies, curses and Egyptian gods are the perfect scenery for an unforgettable Halloween night.

2. Practical Magic (1998)

Two orphaned witch sisters move in with their eccentric aunts in a witch-prejudiced small town where they are threatened by an old family curse to never find a lasting love. With old manors, cats and spells, this movie is the epitome of the Halloween spirit.

3. Casper (1995)

Based on the cartoon character of the same name the film deals with a widower father and his teenage daughter moving in to Whipstaff Manor, where the young ghost Casper resides. Although it’s not so scary as a typical ghost movie would be, it still has it’s connection to Halloween and is enjoyable for all ages.

4. Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Don’t let the title deceive you! Jack Skellington, the King of Halloween Town, attempts to bring Christmas traditions to his home with disastrous results. Tim Burton is a master of dark fantasy and this movie with the spooky town, skeletons and poisonous plants is a perfect example of how a Halloween movie should be.

5. Corpse Bride (2005)

Last but not least another classic dark fantasy film by Tim Burton. Set in a Victorian era European village it follows a shy groom practicing his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, who later rises from the grave assuming he has married her. The gloomy Land of the Living and the colorful Land of the Dead are the perfect backdrop for a unique Halloween movie.
